Who are we?

The National Society of Allotment & Leisure Gardeners Ltd was formed in 1930 by the amalgamation of the Allotments Organisation Society and the National Union of Allotment Holders.

The Society covers mainly England and Wales but now has increasing membership from Scotland and Northern Ireland. Current Membership (2007) is 84,000 members in 1910 Associations, 2535 and individual members, 170 Local Authorities.

The Society owns two small allotment sites, which are leased to Local Authorities.

The aims of the Society are:

a) to help all both Nationally and Internationally to enjoy the recreation of gardening, and thus to promote their health, education and community fellowship.

b) To encourage the formation of local associations, district federations, area, county and regional bodies, and to assist with registration, model rule books, tenancy agreements, administrative services, stationary, insurance, legal advice and to protect members’ interests by lawful means.
