The French federation: Fédération Nationale des Jardins Familiaux et Collectifs owes its existence and its name to abbé LEMIRE, ardent promoter of the social catholicism. In 1896 he wished to put garden plots at the disposal of the workers originating from the rural areas of the country. Aim was that they could cultivate them and supply so to their own needs. Today the French federation, who’s legal domicile is situated in Paris, federates more than 200 member associations and administers more than 50 allotment garden sites in the region of Paris. The latter represent on their own more than 2600 gardeners.
