3. The brochure Natuurlijk Tuinieren (Natural Gardening). A handy and easy to read publication full with tips and things worth knowing to arrange the garden in a more natural way. 3. The brochure “ ´n Hoop over Compost”, about composting. 4. The “Groentjes” (Green Pages). A “Groentje” contains lots of practical information about a specific plant or cultivation. There are more over 100 of these Groentjes. Some of them are about natural gardening. 5. Samen Leven Samen Beleven, (Together Living and Experiencing), a kind of bidbook about the joint use of recreation facilities on allotment sites. 6. Revalorising community-run garden complexes: the role of such complexes in an urban area. Under the authority of the AVVN and the garden society “Ons Buiten” Utrecht researchers of the Agricultural University Wageningen and several students did research for a new and appropriate direction and role for a garden site which involves exploring its meaning for local residents, the qualities they see in it and how they think these could be improved. The reports sets out a route-map for establishing more durable and valued garden complexes. It identifies four preconditions in this transition process: the pressure to change, the development of a clear and shared vision, the ability of the actors involved to bring about change and achieving initial (even small) successes. The process also involves different activities: exploration of the potential, information gathering, participation, structuring and coordination and evaluation. Ons Buiten acted as case study and this case study showed how garden complexes can re-establish their role in contributing to sustainable urban living, briefly reviews similar projects and provides contact details. |
