What do we stimulate? By the exchange of ideas and experiences, the proposal of discussion subjects, common activities and guidelines, the Office supports the national federations from the point of ideas and co-ordinates their activities in the area of: - the creation of leisure garden sites; - the protection of nature and environment; - the sustainable devlopment in accordance with the recommendations of the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 1992; - the sensitization of children and young people for the respect of nature; - the support of socially weaker persons by putting garden plots at their disposal; - the integration of handicapped and elderly people in our society by gardening and the associative life; - a meaningful leisure time occupation for the whole family, especially for unemployed, pensioners; - compensation and relaxing from a monotonous work; - the stimulation of family life and fellowship. By the way of its consultative status at the Council of Europe and its contacts with the European Parliament and the Commission of the European Union, the Office contributes to increasing the knowledge that the leisure gardens are necessary for the improvement of the quality of life in the urban areas and that they have to be legally secured. The Office supports as far as possible national and transborder projects that are worth promoting.
