23rd - 25th August 2012: Study session in Switzerland (Zurich)

Programme:

From 23rd till 25th August 2012 a study session will take place in Switzerland.

Subject of the meeting:
Survey oft he strenghts and weaknesses of the allotment garden movement.
How are we considered by out immediate environment and what image does the public, the media and the politicians have of the allotment garden movement?
The study session will take place in Zürich. Lodging, plenary sessions and workshops will take place in the Hotel Krone Unterstrass, Schaffhauserstrasse 1, CH 8006 Zürich

09.30 a.m. Plenary session.
Welcome by Walter Schaffner, President oft he Swiss allotment garden federation,  Chris Zijdeveld,  President of the International Office and Malou Weirich, Secretary general of the International Office
09.45 a.m. Presentation of the concept for the meetings 2011 to 2014 by Ton Thuis,  main analyst of the subject, Vice-President of the Dutch federation
10.00 a.m. Lecture: „Which image do the allotment gardens have in the public“ illustrated by the example of the town of Zürich by  Ernst Tschannen, director for the green spaces in Zürich
10.45 a.m. Coffee-break
11.15 a.m. Continuation of the lectures: „Strengths and weaknesses of the allotment garden movement“ by Dr. ir D.J. Stobbelaar, Professor at the technical High School Larenstein near Arnheim (division of the university for agriculture in Wageningen)
00.30 p.m. Lunch
01.30 p.m. Workshops:
Subject: Does the image we have of ourselves correspond with the image in the public opinion?
The participants are requested to prepare the discussions in the workshops and possibly give examples!
Beginning of the discussions in the workshops. English ( Allan Rees England) and German (chaired by Switzerland)

04.30 p.m. Plenary session.
Projection of an extract of the TV series shown on Swiss TV „SF bi de Lüt „Unser kleines Paradies“. (The Swiss allotment garden seen by the people “Our small paradise”. The person having elaborated and produced the series will be attending the show. Mr Stefan Jäger SF DRS lecture/discussions.
A 2nd version presented by BRD for discussion.

09.00 a.m. Workshops.
Subject: “How can we improve our image in the public opinion”?
The participants are requested to prepare the discussions in the workshop and present examples if possible!
Continuation of the workshops. English (Hervé Bonnavaud, France) and German (BDG).
10.15 a.m. Coffee-break
10.45 a.m. Summary of the workshops (by the person having chaired them) and discussions of the proposals and the next steps to be taken by Ton Thuis, Netherlands
12.00 a.m. Summary of the study session by Wilhelm Wohatschek, Chairman or Malou Weirich, Secretary general of the International Office
00.30 p.m. Closing of the study session by Chris Zijdeveld,  President of the International Office
00.45 p.m. Lunch
02.00 p.m. Departure for an allotment garden site.
European Day of the garden.
03.00 p.m. Official celebration. Welcome by the chairman of the International Office Willi Wohatschek and the Secretary general Malou Weirich.
Delivery of diplomas of the International Office for an ecological gardening.
Visit of the allotment garden site.
05.00 p.m. Panel discussion:
  • Chairman Chris Zijdeveld President of the International Office  and of the Dutch federation
  • Participants: H. Bonnavaud, President France, St. Jäger Tellfilm GmbH Zürich, E. Tschannen Director of “Grün Stadt Zürich”, the German speaking chairmen of the workshops, A. Rees President Great-Britain
06.15 p.m. Closing of the official part of the European Day of the Garden by Walter Schaffner, President of the Swiss allotment garden federation
  Celebration together with the allotment gardeners from Zürich and the political representatives, the representatives from the authorities, media and the executive board of the Swiss federation.
06.30 p.m. End with dinner together in the allotment garden site Waid.
Returning to the hotel ca. 10.00 p.m.
