Who are we?

In the year 1925 the local federations of Basel, Bern, Geneva, Lausanne and Zurich under the protection of the acting government council and privy council Dr. Gustav Wenk founded the Swiss leisure garden federation called today “Schweizer Familiengärtnerverband.”

Today the Swiss leisure garden federation unifies approximately 375 leisure garden sites, that are administrated by 80 independent leisure garden associations with own statutes construction- and gardening regulations.

In order to stimulate the co-operation with the associations and the members, the federation was divided in different regions: the French speaking part of Switzerland, Basel, Bern, the East part of Switzerland, Central Switzerland and Zurich.

24.800 families belong to the Swiss leisure garden federation.

The Swiss leisure garden federation does not administrate directly grounds taken on lease. 640 ha are leased by the local authorities or other bodies and are administrated by the leisure garden associations
